It’s Egg-citing!

Farm Life 0 comments

Egg-citement abounds at The Old Stables, not just because our brand new (very entertaining) hens have now laid two eggs but because we are now officially open for business. A business, I might add, that is going to need a lot of eggs!

When we made the big decision to leave Bermuda (where I was born and lived all my life and where Simon had spent 25 years of his life) we knew that whatever it was we were going to do we wanted to do it together and we wanted a complete life-style change. I had spent my entire working life in law firms and Simon in the supermarket industry which amounted to a lot of stress for me and long working hours/no weekends or public holidays off for him. We needed a major life adjustment!

We decided that a bed and breakfast in rural Somerset was just what the doctor ordered and last August we, with our clever uni-attending daughter Wendy, 89 boxes, 6 suitcases and a pocketful of hopes and dreams, boarded a British Airways flight bound for that green and pleasant land – England.

We found our dream house in September, moved in at the end of January and welcomed our first paying guests on the 6th April (they loved it by the way!) and now the bookings are coming in.

Having stayed in many B&B’s over the years, we wanted to create an environment that we ourselves would enjoy so we have spent a lot of time getting those subtle little details just right for you. Beautiful linens, fluffy towels, cosy robes. A mini fridge that doesn’t make a sound right in your room, bottled water, fresh milk, locally blended teas, filter coffees, home-baked treats.

Our beautiful rural location in the Hamlet of Chelynch, just outside of the town of Shepton Mallet, is close to everywhere you want to be from Bath to Bristol to Wells, Cheddar and beyond but at the same time is off the beaten path. Part of the beauty of our location is that just as quickly as you can be in one of the towns or tourist areas you are just as quickly back in the heart of the country when you return to The Old Stables at the end of your day. We love that.

But you can see all of this right here on our website (another new addition!). So, whilst it’s been a big move it has been an easy adjustment. We’re right where we want to be and couldn’t be happier and we hope that you feel the same when you come to stay with us.

See you soon!
